Week 13

The aspect of this past week that I found most valuable was I think that it is almost the end of our semester. I feel very comfortable with all my students now and I think that it shows in my instruction and lessons with them. I am actually the most comfortable with my accounting classes which is very funny and interesting to me. I hated accounting the most when I started and now I like that the most.
I think with the Easter break coming that the students were very lazy this week and anticipating having a few days off from school. The students seemed very anxious for the end of the week to approach. I had fun activities for the students on Thursday before the break because I knew that there would be a lot of students absent and that none of them would be motivated to complete any work.
I video taped my second lesson this week for the final. I did that on Monday and I felt that my lesson was great and that it turned out very well. Then on Tuesday morning, the tech person came to our room and told me that there was a problem. The tape was stuck in the camcorder and he could not close it or get the tape out. He needs to send the camcorder away to get fixed. He told me that it would take weeks to get the tape back if he was able to salvage the tape at all. So, then I re-recorded another lesson on Tuesday. I turned out well but I don't feel that it was as good as the first lesson that I recorded. So, if I could go back and change anything about this week it would be that, that would not have happened to the video. I know there was not anything that I could do after that happened but it still gets frustrating.

  1. Oh no! That is so unfortunate that the tape got stuck! I really feel for you, especially because you thought it was a great lesson and something bad like that had to happen. I'm in your boat because both lessons that I had video taped are not cooperating with me and don't want to be burned properly to a DVD...still can't figure it out.

It's really great that you turned out liking Accounting so much, glad you are enjoying it! Have a great rest of your break.

  2. I really feel for you about your tape getting stuck and you having to do another lesson to be taped. I have had that happen to me. The joys of technology etc.

I'm glad that you are liking to teach Accounting after having thought that you would not. In the end both you and the students benefit. Have a great rest of your break. I hope you were able to go home to your parents.

  3. I am sorry to hear about the lesson that you taped. Sometimes these things will happen. At least you had plenty of time to tape another lesson! I agree with you that the students seemed a little lazy this week. I think we can all understand that they were just eagerly anticipating their break. Hope you had a nice Easter! See you Monday.

  4. Teachers that start out disliking a course usually end up liking the course because they have to put in so much heart and soul to make the lessons engaging for the students. In the end, the teachers are just as engaged! Surprise! That is why as business education teachers, we should never decide against teaching a course because we do not feel comfortable with the content. Certified to teach nine different disciplines gives us a lot of clout in public K-12. No one should ever limit what they can give to districts and students by backing away from a course. It truly separates the "men from the boys". :)

I, too, feel badly about the tape. I'm glad you have such a great attitude about it Vicky!
