This past week has been pretty chaotic. I think the aspect of this past week that was the most important was the midterm review. I received a lot of feedback about my teaching. I am going to build on the constructive criticism and work towards improving all of them before the end of the professional semester. I feel after getting this feedback, I know what I need to focus on in my lessons. I also felt that the student surveys gave me a great idea of how the students feel that I am doing as a teacher. Most of the responses were average, but I learned the areas that I need to improve for the students also. I also felt that teaching the same class twice in one day is rewarding. It gives me the ability to improve with my lesson the second time around. This is the first full week that I was able to teach accounting twice in the same day. I would change just a few things about my lessons the second time around, based on how the lesson was during the first class. I also felt that during my business law class, that incorporating case reviews, and an Internet case activity, that the students became more interested in the content that was being taught.
If I could go back to the beginning of the week, I would make sure that I have created all my lesson plans to the way I will be teaching them to my students. I also would change the way I introduced some of my lessons, and find ways to connect the lessons to my students better. I would have also tried to make my business laws tests more challenging for the students. I know that I need to improve that before the next test. This week was a shorter week for me because I took a personal day on Friday.

Isn't it incredible how much we learn as teachers about what works and what doesn't in a lesson. Even after only one lesson it becomes obvious what the students are getting and what they're not. But the fact that you're recognizing this immediately and making the changes is great. (Isn't that Domain 4?!) Good job!
ReplyDeleteI feel the same way that doing the midterm provides a lot of feedback on your teaching skills and what you need to work on. Always changing and working on being the best is what teaching is all about, I'm glad you are trying to be the best teacher possible.
ReplyDeleteThere is a lot to tackle and sometimes we wonder, where do we begin?
ReplyDeleteYet, it is truly a process that as professionals you appreciate the experience after it is over and you are teaching at your first school district. Wait to see how much comes back to you as you take over your own classroom, have your own course, and your own students.
I am glad you are enjoying teaching the same group of students twice in one day! :)
