Week 7

The aspect of week seven that I found most valuable was on Friday when I was able to teach the same lesson twice. I picked up my fourth class on Friday which is another accounting class. I was able to teach the lesson and learn from the lesson about what worked and what I could do to improve it before the next class and make any changes if I needed to. I did make a few changes with my lesson the second time around. I pointed out a few things about the posting of the special journals that were different then what they learned in the previous chapters about posting. I also felt that I have become more comfortable with all my classes this week and that it really showed in my teaching. I was able to incorporate better introductions then I previously have.

If I could go back to the beginning of the week and change anything it would be to make sure that the students are really prepared for the tests. We review in accounting and go over the problems for four or five days before the test. When test time comes some students do very poorly and some do very well. I am going to try and think of ways to improve some test grades for accounting.

  1. I am in total agreement with you-it is beneficial to teach the same lesson twice. I have that with one of my classes and I feel that my lessons are better the second time around. It's easy to throw in minor changes to make your lesson better and more worthwhile for the students. I'm glad to hear you are getting more comfortable with your students, that really can help to make the difference with how your lessons go. Good luck with this week!

  2. I absolutely agree with you about teaching the same lesson a second, third or fourth time becomes better and better. After the first lesson, I feel like a pro, although I am far from a pro. But the second and third lesson gives me confidence in knowing where I am going with the lesson and ready for unusual questions.

  3. As the previous student teachers pointed out, teaching the same lesson more than once is very valuable to both teachers and students. When I taught three computer applications classes my first year in teaching:

Period one was my dress rehearsal
Period four was the real thing
Period eight was my encore performance
