So we have week three finished of our student teaching. This week was interesting. I started my second class this week on Friday. My first class which is business law is going really well. I conect with the students great and we have had some great lessons. Well on Friday I started to teach my first accounting lesson with my second class. I felt that for some of the class that I did not really have control because some of the boys were talking to each other. On top of it being my first time teaching that class I was also observed which made me more nervous. I think I just have not reached my comfort level with that class yet. On Monday I am going to go in and tell them exactly what I expect of them and rewards and consequences for the expectations. I know that I need to think of more creative ways of presenting the accounting information also. Overall the week was not bad but I know that I can improve and that things will get better.
If I could start the week over I would make sure that the students knew what I expect of them before I started with the class. I would also make sure that I have extra activities planned in case I finish early there is still things for the students to do. I will make sure that I have extra problems set aside. I have thought of a creative activity for one of my lessons next week so hopefully that will go better.

Sounds like things well for you in your classes. Since connecting is so important, maybe those students who are talking during your class will take more notice of your well planned connections and stop their talking. Anyway, don't let their talking take momentum from your plan.
ReplyDeleteI'm glad that your business law class is going so well and that you have already connected with them. I know what you mean about the students talking so much. I have a computer applications class who doesn't stop talking. I was observed too during this class and I think it was the worst behavior I have seen from them. That was Thursday and then on Friday I went over the class rules with them again and changed their seats. Good luck with your students, I really hope they get better for you. They might just be trying to push you and see what they can get away with. Good luck!
ReplyDeleteBeing prepared, planning activities for quick completers, and communicating to students your specific guidelines and expectations will greatly increase the ease of the lesson and class.
ReplyDeleteWould love to hear how your creative activity went in week four!
