This week during my student teaching I found that my cooperating teacher was very helpful. She made sure that I received all the materials that I need to fully prepare myself for when I start teaching her classes. I also felt that learning most of the students names, there are some that I still get mixed up was the most valuable aspect of my first week. I believe that this showed the students that I have respect for them, therefore I will receive respect in return. I also helped my coop out with all of her classes because most of them are engaging in projects that will take about two weeks for them to complete. I also learning about the stock market game that our accounting 2 class will play in starting in February. I have never had any exposure to that game and I think it will be fun.
If I had the chance to start the week over I wish I would have been able to see my coop teach a lesson. I started when she was giving her classes midterms, finals, and projects that will take them until the end of next week to finish. Therefore I have not seen her teach a lesson to the class yet.

I'm glad to hear your co-op was so helpful, I feel mine was the same way. He was always supplying me with more information I needed. I agree with you about showing respect for the students by learning their names. It is so important for them to respect us as well, hopefully that will happen with us being able to relate to them. Even though you haven't seen a lesson yet, I hope you are enjoying helping out with the projects. That is sort of how my week was-my co-op's classes are semester classes with this past week being the last of the semester. It was a lot of wrapping up the classes, whether it was make up work or trying to squeeze in the last bit of content he felt they needed to know. I hope you have fun with the stock market game-I've never done it either, let us know how it goes!
ReplyDeleteYour teaching and comfort will find a happy medium Vicky. We are all nervous at some point; it's just that some of us can hide it better than others. :) Keep smiling that big smile of yours and the students will accept and support you in the classroom as you are learning.
ReplyDeleteRespect is very important in all walks of life, but, especially important in the classroom. It truly can make you or break you as a teacher.
